Our mission is to provide support to the victims of domestic violence and abuse, prevent any further violence to the victim, and assist the victim through the legal system.
The "Circle Of Life" binds us all together as brothers and sisters. Let us heed that call before it is to late !!!
We are the ONLY Nationwide Non-Religious based Domestic Violence Shelter that offers assistance to everyone regardless of their age, race, color, creed, sexual preference, religious beliefs, spiritual practices or alternative lifestyle.
The "Safe Harbor" ranch facilities work on the "barter basis". This means you can either contribute funds from an outside source as payment for your stay or be willing to "work for your keep". This is sometimes also known as room and board on other ranches.
For those who have no outside employment or wish to work strictly for "Safe Harbor", we can provide vocational training in many areas of expertise. The individual instantly becomes part of a business, to feel that sense of belonging again, and experience the joys of freedom once more.
That means the individual earns credits toward their accommodations, as well as a pay check while learning a useful trade or business skill that could land the individual in the executive levels of the business entity the individual is participating.
There is no pressure, as long as they are willing to work for your keep and/or provide financial assistance to keep the "Safe Harbor" ranch facility operating efficiently.
The new Texas based ranch consists of three sectors of living accommodations:
The 15,000 sq ft mess hall is for "Transitional Housing" community occupants only, as well as for private functions that have a need for a full service commercial kitchen facility and dining area. The "Transitional Housing" community occupants will have three meals a day available to them at designated times. The facility can comfortably seat and feed 400 people at a sitting and the kitchen area is designed to rival any fully functioning commercial kitchen. With separate food preparation areas for each specific task which makes preparation and coordination for a function a simple task.
The Traditional Kitchen is a fully equipped kitchen designed for caterers and small businesses. It has everything you need to manufacture your product in an efficient manner, with proximity to the scullery and storage areas. The Baker's Kitchen has been created for bakers and other makers of sweet products. Whether you are making simple breads or delicate desserts, this kitchen will be perfect for your needs. To ensure product quality for everyone, we ask that you restrict usage of the Baker's Kitchen to bread-based products or desserts

Amenities
In addition to the kitchen areas, The SHF Kitchen Space offers other amenities to help your food business.
The first step for most prospective clients is to give us a call or send us an email in order to make an appointment to see the kitchen. Since someone is not always available for drop-in showings, it's important to make an appointment first. Our staff is minimal, but we do our best to return all inquiries within 24 hours. We're available to show you around at just about any time, including evenings and weekends, and we're happy to answer any questions, and will provide you with the paperwork (it isn't much) you'll need.
Once you're ready to get started, we require just three things:
Many of our clients visit us early in their planning process, after which we don't hear from them until a few months later when they are ready to get started. So don't hesitate to call us even if you're not sure of everything else quite yet. We understand that many of the people that are new to our space are also new to running their own business. There's no pressure, and we may even be able to help you out, as we have with a number of other new, small business owners.

Once you have decided to host a large food event, the basic secret of success is summed up in three words: "Plan, plan, plan."
Why Self Catering?
You may be in a rural area where catering services are unavailable. You may want family specialties or ethnic foods that aren't available commercially. Still, the most common reason to consider self catering is a desire either to reduce costs or to have an expanded event for the same budget, such as a dinner rather than a reception.
The cost of a fine wedding supper, catered and served buffet style, is $40 to $200 per person and up. Unless you are very skilled and experienced, your cash costs for a self-catered event will start at about 1/2 what the same event would cost you locally if it were fully catered. Your costs can go up from there; with poor planning, you can do all the work and STILL pay about what a fully catered dinner would have cost. Imagine, for the cost of a large wedding dinner of 200 guests, you could buy a car, or make a down payment on a small house.
The 10,000 sq foot recreation center has been designed to allow the community occupants to be able to feel relaxed and happy as if they were living in a Five Star resort facility, rather than a domestic violence shelter. This type of mental and emotional reconditioning greatly assists in rebuilding the community occupants’ “feeling alive” positive attitude that the community facility was created for. It also helps to build trust and camaraderie between the community occupants as they participate in team sporting events. The children’s’ playground areas use safety reinforced rubber matting to insure maximum protection against injury while they are enjoying the playground equipment provided.

The office and media center will offer telephone and internet capability, as well as a satellite television room, a library and a theatre/movie room. DVD movies will also be made available for private viewing via television in the community occupant’s personal living accommodations.
The Vocational Educational Area will allow the community occupants to train in a field of their choice at no cost to them to assist them to transition to a different career path should they so decide. The trainers are professionals their own field of endeavor and the time donated is in typically in hopes of finding someone they can put to work as an apprentice in their work environment. Each instructor has their own curriculum and own passing grade standards. Any programs that have workshops included, tools and equipment will be supplied by SHF for the workshops only.
Surrounding the 15 acre lake is our No Kill Animal control area known as "Pawsabilities" which has been designed to maintain up to 100 dogs or cats in private kennels at all times, as well as provide housing for exotic animals, such as birds, reptiles, and even fish, if needed. The Equestrian area has been fully designed and equipped for maintaining up to 10 horses at all times. A trained animal handler will be on premises from 9am till 9pm every day to assist the community occupants with their pets needs. A veterinarian is available 24/7 for animal health issues.
Safe Harbor Foundation philosophy regarding the environment is that we consider the moral relations between human beings and their natural environment. We assume the prospective that humans have certain responsibilities to the natural world. Our green transitional housing will directly benefit individuals, families and Safe Harbor Foundation in their goal in reducing energy bills and reducing greenhouse emission as well as creating healthier living environments for all. We will reduce the normal energy and natural resources required to operate and maintain our facilities through environmentally sustainable utilities with the use of wind and solar power, bioswale; the use of plant natives and recycling. Our global benefit:
With use of wind-power a plentiful, renewable widely distributed, clean and solar power utilization of the radiant energy which will be used as our electric, heating, cooling source. These energy sources will not generate waste and they will reduce green house emission. A wind turbine farm will supplement the electric energy and reduce our electrical consumption. These turbines will be acceptable for low average speeds from 4.5 mph to 120 mph. The added advantage turbine is minimal maintenance. The Texas based location is in a very favorable area for this type of project.
Solar cells panels in either polycrystalline thin films or single crystalline thin film will function to reduce the demand on the local electrical power grid. The panel will canopy the one or more buildings on the compound to generate a maximum of 30kwh per dwelling and meeting our goal to reduce greenhouse emission by 37,000 pounds per year.
Another area of global responsibility we have implemented is in water conservation. We are engaged in protecting our ecosystems so we do not impact our natural replacement rate by the use of ponds.
Our water conservation will include reclaiming water from rain falls from each dwelling through a series of pipe allowing the collected water to be harvested into our pond and wetland.
In conjunction we will creating a bioswale which will help us trap pollutants and cleanse the water before it goes into our ponds. The additional benefit will reduce runoff slowing down the water enough to permit filtration into the ground, which will replenish our groundwater source. The use of a windmill will also work with the bioswale in water recirculation from our pond and wetland.
Xeriscape landscaping is an environmentally friendly form of landscaping that uses a variety of indigenous and drought tolerant plants, shrubs and ground cover incorporating seven basic principles which lead to saving water:
The facility contains a 20,000 sq foot Bomb/Weather Shelter equipped with the latest in modern technology and survival gear in the case of severe weather or a wartime situation.
